Peace and Love Everyone!
I hope everyone is having a great week. If not I hope you have a great weekend.
This week I am reposting Chapters 7 through 9. Chapter 11 is coming soon.
Chapter 7
Angelo turns off the alarm from his phone before checking the video surveillance of their home and grounds. He found nothing suspicious.
Angelo turns off the alarm from his phone before checking the video surveillance of their home and grounds. He found nothing suspicious.
“Let’s head upstairs and get some breakfast. Daphne make your call.”
Daphne calmed her mind as she settled herself on the bar stool at the kitchen counter. She took a minute to watch Angelo as he prepared to cook breakfast and smiled. She liked seeing him in the morning. Angelo looked up and winked. Daphne couldn’t help but grin. What would life be like with him? They hadn’t spoken about it since they were children. He would work and she would be at home dreaming and taking care of their beautiful children. Daphne chuckled. He had always wanted more than one child. Maybe.
“What are you thinking about?”
“Oh, how we described our lives as children.”
Angelo laughed. “That was quite a while ago. I’ve missed you. We didn’t have a childhood like most Dreamers.”
“I am sorry for that. We kept getting cut off from each other.”
“You mean you and your mother kept cutting us off from each other.”
“Sorry Angelo. I just.” She knew he was hurt when she bound her dreaming. She had ached for him all those years. It was unnatural for Dreamers to be apart from their mate physically and in the Dreaming. She just didn’t know how to make up for it. “…..Angelo, my feelings for you at sixteen were so strong, and I couldn’t help but feel what you felt. There was no way we’d stay away from each other much longer and I needed time to grow, to follow my own dreams.”
“And you don’t think I would have given you that.”
“Maybe, after you’d gotten me pregnant at eighteen.”
Angelo sighed and gave a slight smile. “You’re right.”
“I know. Everything is flooding back. Or it has been since you’ve been back. Never mind you forced me into your life again.”
“You were putting both of us in danger Daphne. You were always so head strong.”
Now Daphne smiled. “Guess some things never change.” She got off the stool and went around the island. “I had every intention of coming back to you. I have always loved you, Angelo.”
Angelo stopped what he was doing and embraced his love. “I know, Daph. I’ve missed you, my love.” He held her in his arms and kissed her softly. “So glad we’re together now.”
“Me too.” They kissed again.
“I could stand here and kiss you all day but it’s now after noon. Go make your call.”
It took a moment before she moved. Their foreheads nestled against each other. Her palms rested on his chest. Here is where she wanted to stay. She took a deep breath. Inhaling his scent was calming as well as arousing. They were together now and she knew they would both make sure they stayed that way.
Now she was ready. Daphne returned to the other side of the island and settled herself back on the stool before she picked up the house phone. Then she took a deep breathe before she dialed Tina’s office extension.
“Good Afternoon. Michael and Michaels Law Firm.”
“Good Afternoon Tina. Why are you answering your phone?”
“I haven’t hired anyone yet. It hasn’t been a day. I start interviews tomorrow.”
“Glad to hear you’re on your way.”
“I am. Mr. Michael just walked into his office. He said to transfer your call as soon as I heard from you. Just make sure he transfers you back.”
“Okay.”
Speaking to Mr. Michael wasn’t a problem at all. He knew that Daphne wanted to work from home eventually.
“So we’ve come to this so soon? You haven’t been here five years yet.”
“ Mr. Michael it’s been six years. I’m not leaving totally. I’m just going to work from home. Should you need to reach me I’m available. Tina will have my information.”
“Will do. Do you think she can really make it here.”
“She has the ability and I’ve been training her the whole time we’ve been there. She just hasn’t realized that she belongs there.”
“Did she pass the bar?”
“This year actually. She just needs the confidence to seek clients.”
“We’ll see. She’ll need to get that done as soon as possible.”
“I’ll let her know.”
Daphne, I do have one question “
“Go ahead.”
“You’re not renewing His contract, are you?
“No.”
“Good. The partners and I don’t really want to be affiliated with the commotion he brings. He’s been here already early this morning looking for you. Keeps saying you’ve been kidnapped.”
“Wow. I really don’t understand that. I assure you I’m well and not kidnapped.”
“Glad to hear that. I could always tell when you’re upset about things. Since you’ve been speaking with who ever this guy is, I’ve never seen you happier or more focused.”
“I didn’t know you noticed.”
“I noticed, Daphne. May I ask why the sudden leave?”
“We’re eloping.”
“Well congratulations. See you soon.”
“Thank you and yes.”
“You’re welcome. I’ll transfer you back to Tina.”
“Okay, thanks again.”
That was easier then Daphne thought it would be. Of course when she came to work there she was very honest with the board and Mr. Michael.
No one picked up until the third ring. “You’ve take your sweet time calling in.”
“Well, good afternoon Chance.”
“Yeah, yeah. I need you to tell us where you are.”
“Why? Who us?”
“Ms. Jones, this is officer Hannon. We’ve put you on speaker. Your friend here has tried to file some serious charges against your boyfriend. Says some guy named Angelo has kidnapped you from your apartment yesterday afternoon.”
“Now why would he say that. I was home until yesterday day evening. Left work early because I wasn’t feeling a hundred percent. In the evening I went to see my fiancee. I assure you I’m perfectly fine. I would ask Chance how he knows when I came and left my apartment since I haven’t seen him since yesterday at lunch.”
“Good question. Chance?”
There was no reply from Chance. He didn’t utter a sound to the officer’s question.
“Actually officer, if you speak with the security at my building and have them show you the video from the cameras you’ll see that Chance was pacing the building most of the night. His stalking is why I have not renewed his contract. I know he’s not into women but for some reason, he’s become fixated with me.”
Ma’am, can you come down to the precinct? This way you can file a police report and we can see you’re safe. Or perhaps we can come to you.”
“Sorry officer, I will not. I have no reason to do so. You can speak with my attorney if need be. You can also ask him about the order of protection that was filed yesterday at the precinct near my home. All video footage has been sent to my attorney also. It’ll make the trip easier for you.”
“That’s that. Sorry to disturb you ma’am. Have a good day.”
Daphne could hear Chance in the back ground. “There lies, all lies. She can’t be safe.”
“Tina. Take me off speaker.”
“Yes Daphne.”
“Get working on your client list.”
“I know.”
“I’ll call another time.” Daphne hung up the phone.
“Everything good?”
“For now. Still, something isn’t right.”
“Doesn’t matter right now. You’re safe. Here eat your breakfast.”
“Thank you, love. I could get used to this.”
“Me too.”
Chapter 8
Chapter 8
“Good morning my love. Enjoying the break in your schedule?”
“Absolutely. I’m especially enjoying you spoiling me.”
Angelo sets a tray of food in front of Daphne.
“You’re going to make me fat.”
“I’m pretty sure that is not an issue. Still want to swim today.”
“Yes, after you help me stretch. And of course after these crepes.”
“Sure but it depends on what type of stretching you have in mind,” Angelo teased.
Daphne just smiled as she had each morning for the last few weeks. Angelo had been taking really good care of her each and every day before he disappeared into his office to work.
“Anything in particular you want me to prepare for lunch?”
“How about an omelette with hash browns, turkey sausage and toast.”
“You can do you toast when you’re ready. I’ll work on lunch while you eat and get dressed for the pool.”
She smiled as she put another piece of the strawberry crepe into her mouth. Each morning she would be served a small breakfast before they exercised. Then she would eat a large lunch before Angelo put in several undisturbed hours of work and she worked on the legal contracts she needed to have messengered for her clients.
“Daphne.”
“Yes, mom.”
“You up?”
“As I am every morning around this time. What’s going on, mom?”
“It’s been several weeks, you and Angelo have settled in. I’m ready to go home.”
“Miss dad.”
“Very much. We dream each other every night, but it’s not the same as being together.”
“I can imagine. So how can I help?”
“You have to deal with Chance. And you and Angelo have to appear before the council.”
“I thought our bonds already made it official.”
“Mother Blue desires to see you.”
“I can just dream her.”
“Daphne.”
“Mom.”
“Daphne you know how this works. Plus you need to be there for your brother.”
“Why?”
“I don’t think he should be isolated.”
“Yeah, what about Patience?”
“He seems to be treating her better.”
“But for how long, mom?”
“I was hoping for a long time. He know what they do to Dreamers who have a propensity of twisted deeds.”
“Mom, I have to deal with things here. Am I even suppose to be restraining Matt like that.”
“We really have no clue how this is effecting the baby. That’s why you need to see Mother Blue.”
“Fine. I’m sure I’ll have to deal with Chance soon anyway. Let me swim and then I need to call the office.”
Daphne had barely gotten in her laps before Angelo came outside. “Babe your phone just keeps ringing. It’s the office.”
“Angelo please answer it. Give me a second.”
“Good morning. You’ve reached Daphne Jones. Please hold.”
Daphne got out of the pool and wrapped herself in a towel. “Good morning, Daphne Jones speaking.”
“Well Ms.Jones it appears congratulations are in order. Is that why you’ve reduced your work load?”
“ Mr. Michael, hello. Thank you and yes, partially. How can I help you? I’ve been told you’ve been trying to contact me for a while this morning.”
“Yes, I just got off the phone with Mannis of Blocks and Tunes. He was rather panicked actually. He threatened to take his account to another firm. He said your assistant called him and said she was taking over the account. I thought you spoke with Tina.”
“ Mr. Michael, I did. I told her that she needed to get her own accounts to prove herself to the firm and that I was keeping most of mine.”
“He said you had assured him a few weeks ago that you would continue to work with him but that she has called this morning , and last week I believed. He said she left a message with his secretary. He wouldn’t speak with her directly.”
Daphne apologized profusely and told him that she had been training her and she just got over zealous.
“But I’ve gotten text and emails since you’ve been gone asking for reassurance.”
“Mr. Michael I will deal with it. I will call Mr. Mannis and write my other clients.”
“You do that. I also think you need to meet with her and have a talk.”
“Mr. Michael I’m still on my hiatus.”
“Hiatus or no hiatus, you need to deal with this. You made it seem like this would go smoothly, it has not.”
“Well can I speak with her?”
“I’ll have my secretary patch you to her. I need this dealt with, today. You’re a great attorney and you’ve really brought us some big clients. She has not. And did you know she kept Chance?”
“No sir.” There was a grunt right before Daphne heard music.
Daphne knew when she hired Tina that she would be a handful but she thought that she could steer her in the right direction and keep her on track enough to get Tina to be a great attorney. She got her paralegal license at twenty and finished law school a year early. Somehow she kept failing the bar until she came to work with Daphne.
Daphne sighed and held on for Tina to pick up.
“Good morning Daph. How are you? Enjoying your love break?”
“I’m well Tina. Don’t call me Daph. How are you?”
“I’m well. Having a hard time getting clients. Your old clients are not receptive to me at all. The secretaries won’t even put me through to speak with them.”
Daphne couldn’t believe this. Was she delusional? “Tina, they are my clients. You can not contact them, call or email or send a messenger. I am still handling my ten top clients. The others have been turned over to the firm. If they haven’t given you any it’s because you haven’t proved yourself yet. And calling my clients fishing isn’t earning you any points. You’re actually harming your chances of staying at the firm.”
“It’s not like I have your gift to dream them.”
“I didn’t find my clients through my gift. I found them by paying attention to events in my field. I looked for businesses and individuals who would need my help.”
“Your clients need my help.”
“No they don’t. And if you don’t get your own clients soon, Chance will be your only client. You weren’t supposed to keep him as a client. Are you aware you’re risking your job at the firm.”
“I told him you would find out. Let’s do lunch.”
Daphne couldn’t help but think Tina was unbelievable. How did she not see this coming? “Maybe next week. I’ll have to coordinate with Angelo for when he goes into the city.”
“Oh, of course. Say Wednesday?”
“I’ll let you know. And take my advice. Find your own clients. And stay away from mine!”
“Sure, sure, of course. At least until you don’t want them.”
Daphne didn’t even reply she hung up.
“I know that look. You used to get it when thinking about the girls who bullied you at school.”
“Some how Chance has messed with her.”
“Messed with who?”
“Tina, mom. I’ve observed her and watched her dreams. She seemed so eager to be her own woman and make her own way. Now all she wants is what I have.”
“When Chasers don’t have dreams to feed on, they can feed off people. But feeding on humans warps them. We haven’t figured out how or why this happens.”
Daphne sighed as Angelo embraced her from behind. “I had such high hopes for her. I told her not to keep Chance as a client and to avoid him. He’s got his hooks in.”
“And he won’t stop. You want to free Tina, you have to deal with Chance.”
“Okay. How do I survive it?”
“Angelo, isn’t going to like this. But it is possible to all but destroy a Chaser.”
Chapter 9
“What won’t I like?” Angelo asked embracing Daphne from behind.
“Daphne will need to get rid of her Chasers all together.”
“Mom, what will that entail?”
“Getting captured.” Daphne’s mom replies.
“Mom, I will not let Daphne go through that.”
“We have no choice. He will never let go.”
“You’re right. I don’t like this.”
“Angelo, I’m starving.”
“I got you, Daphne. It’ll be ready in a few.” He kisses her cheek before stepping back into the kitchen.
“Thanks. I’m going to grab a piece of fruit and shower before I make a few calls. I’m hoping Tina didn’t undo all of my work with her calls.”
“Daphne, we need to talk about this.”
“We will discuss it after my business calls, mom.”
“Daphne, you can’t let anything interfere with your calling.”
“Mom, nothing is interfering with my calling. Now, I’m with Angelo. I’m pregnant, please stop stressing me. By the way, the council is dreaming tonight.”
“I know.”
As she walked upstairs to the bathroom Daphne couldn’t help but think of what a mess the situation had become. She didn’t think that helping her clients in the dreaming would attract a Chaser. She hadn’t put much stock in how having a partner would help her or strengthen her. She had only thought about her career. She had only thought of herself. Now her selfish decision affected those she loved. And would affect her developing fetus. She would really have to think about her decision carefully from now on. She stood in the bathroom mirror staring at herself. She no longer looked so tired. Dreaming with Angelo as her support had made a difference. She needed him. Daphne sat at the kitchen nook quietly. She gathered her thoughts before she called Mannis. It was rare that she spoke to her clients in person. Most of the conversations she had with them took place in the dreaming. This time contact couldn’t wait.
“Good morning, Morgan. This is Daphne Jones for Mr. Mannis.”
“So glad you called. He’s been very anxious. Of course, I figured we’d hear from you soon. Please hold.”
“Daph, you’re lunch is almost ready.”
“Can we eat here?”
“Sure, but we promised no business during meals.”
“It will take a few minutes. Give me five please.”
“You have until I finish putting the food out.”
Daphne nodded as she greeted Mr. Mannis. “Good morning Mr. Mannis.”
“Good morning Ms. Jones. Glad to know you’re real. I wasn’t sure. It’s not like we’ve spoken other than through emails or messages from Morgan.”
“Yes, I’m a real person. I am sorry for all the confusion.”
“I didn’t understand why she was contacting me.”
“Misunderstanding that myself and Mr. Michael have rectified. While I’m not in the office I’m still handling clients. If you have any problems you can always have Morgan call or email me. I’m here to help you with any legal needs.”
“Thank you so much. I appreciate that. Also, my daughter and I are closer now. Thank you for helping me see her side.”
“You’re welcome, Mr. Mannis.”
“And where do I send you gift. I’m told congratulations are in order.”
“Thank you. But you don’t have to send anything. You staying with Michael and Michael is thanks enough.” “I insist.” “I’ve given my information to Morgan.” Mannis thanks Daphne again and transfers the call back to Morgan.
“Morgan here.”
“Morgan, do me a favor. I’m sure Tina will call or email again. Just block the emails. You have my number. You can call me when you need me. Also, any mail or legal documents you can forward to the address I gave you last week”
“No problem.” The call ends.
“Babe, that was more than five minutes.”
“Sorry. Tina really made a mess of things. I have at least five more calls left about the same thing. I’ll email the others.”
“So you’ve been helping people with more than legal stuff.” Angelo sits at the table next to Daphne.
“That’s my calling, isn’t it?”
“Daphne, you know you’re not supposed to go into the dreaming without a mate.”
“I know but people needed my help, Angelo.”
“So how do we end the Chance issue?”
“My dear son, I thought you’d never ask.” They both look at each other and before looking to see Samantha. Neither remembers her standing there.
“Mom, where did you come from?”
“I’ve been in the library. Just got up for something to eat.”
“I left you a plate on the stove.”
“Such a good son-in-law. So we can’t make it obvious that you want to meet him.”
“Tina asked to have lunch.”
“Great. So which restaurant?”
“We usually eat at Method.”
“Good one. Dreamers own that.”
“So you’ve been telling me not to work and Dreamers have businesses.”
“Not the point.”
“Mom.”
“You’ll need your brother for this. You haven’t enough energy to pull this off on your own. It could kill you.”
“Then she’s not doing it. I will not lose Daphne after I’ve just found her. Plus, mom she’s pregnant.”
“I know. You two don’t have to keep remind me. The dreams of a child will help her. It’s the best time. Even though her dreaming without a mate has drained her.” Samantha paused and glared at there daughter.
Daphne rolled her eyes.
“She can still accomplish this even with child. Probably more so now than any time.”
“But mom, we’re no more than a few weeks pregnant. Well, two weeks now.”
“I know. But your little one is powerful. It may have something to do with her father being able to dream. No human can do that.”
“Wow, can’t believe that never crossed my mind. How is that possible?” They both looked at each other and then at Angelo. He got up from the table and walked to the sink He pretended not to notice. He began clearing the stove and countertop.
“Is he really going to ignore us?”
“Yes mom, he is.” They looked toward him again. “When Angelo doesn’t want to discuss something he pretends he hasn’t heard your question or statement. But that is a good question.”
“You know Elder’s oldest son walked away from us before you were even born. He found his mate and and then stopped dreaming anyone else but her. Elder still pines for him.”
“Why did he leave?”
“He said that dreaming drove Dreamer males mad. So he said he would only dream his mate. Elder saw power in her son. She wanted him to assume control. The control she’s trying to give you.”
Finally Angelo decides to answer. There was no point in him hiding it from his love. “My father never taught me dreaming nor did he guide me to dream a mate. He said it had no use for me. But when I didn’t hear from Daphne I asked my dad to help me. He would not. Then I turned to your mom.”
“Elder said she knew who you were. She said she didn’t want to chase you away.”
“So dreamer males can be saved. They don’t have to become Chasers.”
“Yes, but his mom didn’t believe him. She didn’t want to lose the power he wielded. I promised my dad I will only dream my mate. I have kept my word and I will continue to do so. If Elder will not accept my decision, my family and I will also have nothing to do with the dreaming or Dreamers.”
“Let’s head upstairs and get some breakfast. Daphne make your call.”
Daphne calmed her mind as she settled herself on the bar stool at the kitchen counter. She took a minute to watch Angelo as he prepared to cook breakfast and smiled. “Yes, I just got off the phone with Mannis of Blocks and Tunes. He was rather panicked actually. He threatened to take his account to another firm. He said your assistant called him and said she was taking over the account. I thought you spoke with Tina.”
“Mr. Michael, I did. I told her that she needed to get her own accounts to prove herself to the firm and that I was keeping most of mine.”
“He said you had assured him a few weeks ago that you would continue to work with him but that she has called this morning and last week I believed.
Some how she kept failing the bar until she came to work with Daphne.
You’re actually harming you chances of staying at the firm.”
You weren’t suppose to keep him as a client.
“When Chasers don’t have dreams to feed from, they can feed off people. But feeding from humans warps them.
“Good morning , Morgan. This is Daphne Jones for Mr. Mannis.”
“So glad you called. He’s been very anxious. Of course I figured we’d here from you soon.
“You’re welcome , Mr. Mannis.”
“And where do I send you gift. I’m told congratulations are in order.”
“Thank you. But you don’t have to send anything. You staying with Michael and Michael is thanks enough.”
“I insist.”
“I’ve given my information to Morgan.” Mannis thanks Daphne again and transfers the call back to Morgan.
“Morgan here.”
“Morgan, do me a favor. I’m sure Tina will call or email again. Just block the emails. You have my number. You can call me when you need me. Also, any mail or legal documents you can forward to the address I gave you last week”
“No problem.” The call ends.
“Babe, that was more then five minutes.”
“Sorry. Tina really made a mess of things. I have at least five more calls left about the same thing. I’ll email the others.”
“So you’ve been helping people with more than legal stuff.” Angelo sits at the table next to Daphne.
“That’s my calling, isn’t it?”
“Daphne, you know you’re not suppose to go into the dreaming without a mate.”
“I know but people needed my help, Angelo.”
“So how do we end the Chance issue?”
“My dear son, I thought you’d never ask.” They both look at each other and before looking to see Samantha. Neither remember her standing there.
He began clearing the stove and counter top.
I won’t make you wait another two weeks to read Chapter 11. So on Friday I’ll post Chapter 10 and Chapter 11 will post on Saturday. I really like the direction I’m going now.
Until next week. Peace & Love.
