Peace & Love Everyone!
Hope you’ve been having a great week. If not it’s at least half way over.
This past weekend I say two movies. The first one we say was Aladdin and the second was Rocketman. I’d been excited to see both movies, so here’s what I think of them

Disney remade Aladdin from the cartoon to a movie. Anyone whose seen the original cartoon Aladdin was excited to see what they had done with the latest version. Not to mention Will Smith played the roll of Genie. A voice we had come to know and love because if was originally cast as Robin Williams. Of course, we loved Robin as the Genie.
In addition to Will, Aladdin had a cast of people of color. Naomi Scott played Jasmine, Mena Mussoad played Aladdin, Marwan Kenzari plays Jafar and the Sultan is played by Navid Negahban. That was very exciting. In prior Hollywood they would cast a white person and make them up to look like a person of color. I’m happy to say it had decreased a bit in the recent years. I’m so glad this is not the case here. Aladdin should have a cast that represents the location of the story. Kudos to Disney.
That being said, I wasn’t impressed with this movie. I love the beginning and how the cave was created as well as how they found the Genie. Of course we know the story. I even loved the take on Aladdin getting to know the Genie. I felt like Will did a pretty good job at playing Genie.
For the most part we know the story. There isn’t anything new to see here. If you haven’t seen Aladdin at all, enjoy. The colors are vibrant with a well created cast and set. It’s a great adventure
As for me, after the first 30 minutes I grew bored. Usually, if I’ve drank too much at a movie I’m anxious about what I would miss when I leave. Not the case here at all.
One thing I will say before I end my thoughts on Aladdin, I like the fact that Jasmine’s role here was equal to Aladdins and you saw that her father turned over the kingdom to her. People had a problem with it. But why? It’s eluded to in the actual cartoon. You don’t leave the cartoon thinking that Aladdin will be the Sultan. So, why would people be upset with Jasmine being assertive and finally getting what she was raised to be? I say again, kudos to Disney.
All and all, I give Aladdin 🤩🤩🤩 out of 5 starry eyed emojis. Entertaining for sure but not work the $15 to $20 you’re going to pay. This is a matinee or stream movie for sure. And yes, your five year old will enjoy it.
Now let’s talk about Rocketman. Just in case you didn’t know Rocketman is about the life of English rock star Elton John.
This movie stars ‘Taron Egerton. Yes the one and the same Eggy from Kingsman. He plays the Elton John, and I must say he does an awesome f’ing job. When an actor plays a part you expect to believe they are who they say they are. I do, but I must say that I truly believed in all my heart that Taron was Elton.
Rocketman moved me to tears as well as thrilled me with Elton’s climb to stardom. As on lookers and fans we have no idea what a star goes through in their lives. We only see the disasters that the media digs up and hopefully just as many happy times. But the reasons that they respond a certain way is a loss to us. We draw conclusions and make judgements based on our own perceptions of their lives. But really we have no idea.
Rocketman give a glimpse into Elton John, who he was and why he was that way. I felt for his pain and was overjoyed by his successes as well as concerned when his stardom took a major toll on his life.
Kudos to the directors, writers and producers who created this movie. You got an opportunity to see so much of his life due to short scenes that were the connecting points between major parts of the story. I loved it. Also, make sure you stay ’til the end. You get to see the real Elton in his outfits that match the scenes in the movie.
After seeing the movie I spent the rest of the day listening to Elton John.
I give Rocketman 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 out of 5 starry eyed emojis. It is a must see. Whether you’re an avid Elton John fan or not I believe you will enjoy this movie. And it’s worth every penny.
