Peace and Love all.
My story romance blogs are back. There is no way I could stay away from writing a romance. I’m not sure where to go with this story, but the characters usually take over after a while. This starts off getting a bit steamy.
Enjoy!
Chapter 1
How am I late for work, again? Why does this keep happening to me? I have always been an early bird. For all of my school career and the first seven years of my work life, I arrive with fifteen to thirty minutes to spare. OMG what is it? She wanted to scream.
Of course, she knew. Calls from mother. For the entire week, her mom decided to call her first thing in the morning. She said, ‘don’t mind me, dear, we can talk as you get ready.’ That was a joke because if Lily didn’t reply, she would scream into the phone for her.
Lily gave a groan and a small scream before she got out of her car.
“Rough morning, Ms. Stream?”
“Understatement of the century.”
“I have a message from Sam.” Lily looked up at Marc, waiting for him to say something.
“Well, spit it out.”
“Here ma’am.”
She felt like an idiot. Of course, he wouldn’t give a verbal message — Samuel knew how she was about privacy. Lily took a deep breath and opened the envelope.
‘Breath. They have rescheduled the office meeting for noon, and Mr. Jameson has pushed back the meeting until eleven am saying he had some personal issues to attend. Get some coffee and come up in an hour. I got you. -Sam.’
She was going to hug him. Samuel, her sexy assistant, was a Godsend. Not only was he exceptional to look at, but he was bloody incredible. They had talked about her disturbed mornings, and he had been trying to pick up the slack. She would have to do something fabulous for him if they got this account. She nodded at the note and turned toward her favorite happy place. As she looked up, she almost froze in her tracks.
Almost. Don’t let him see you sweat, girl. What the fuck is he doing here? Didn’t he moved to San Jose, on the other side of the U.S., away from me. Granted she knew he didn’t move to be away from her, but still, not much different.
As she continued her walk to get her coffee, Lily remembered Dakota more than she wanted to remind herself of him. She recalled how he felt against her as though her body melted into his. The way he stroked her cheek when she looked into his eyes before he kissed her lips. That always sent shivers down my spine. The way he would touch me. Lily mentally shook herself. Even thinking of it made her body react, moistening the folds between her thighs. Damn, a grimace masking the ecstasy she reminisced.
Get control of yourself. I can’t let him see me shaking like this. Come on pull yourself together. She refused to do this again. Every time she saw him and felt that he had gotten his head together, it was a disaster. The only way she was able to deal with the disappointment was to delve into her work. She told herself that she would not do that again.
Why do so many things in my life make me want to scream? Some of them were more pleasurable than others, some downright frustrating. She didn’t need this, not now after her mother has been nagging her to find love. Every day this week, she heard that she and Dakota balanced each other.
Smile. She plastered her ‘loving life’ smile on her face as his eyes met her’s. She didn’t want him to know she still felt for him, that his absence or prescence rattled her, even though he could probably see it in her eyes.
Lily put a slight sway in her hips as they approached each other. Now they stood only a few feet from each other. God help me avoid this disaster.
Maybe, she could have ignored him and walked right by, but he might grab her arm. She wanted to avoid that. I just need my coffee, then I could handle this. Meeting him before her morning coffee was a bad sign.
“Lily darling, you look utterly beautiful. Making me wish I had stuck around.”
“Thank you, and don’t lie.” She replied as he embraced her. Lily stiffened not wanting to melt into him as she usually did. Still, Dakota pulled her in close to him. She could smell his cologne. God, that’s the one. The one he wears when he comes to see me. I love that on him. Did he plan this? After all he knows where I work.
Lily pulled back a bit, and he held her tighter for the briefest of moments. Just let go. Finally, he too pulled back.
“I’m glad to see you, Lily.”
“Nice to see you, Dakota.” They both paused, staring at each other. She damn sure wasn’t going to ask him any questions. Maybe he would take the silence as a hint. Of course, that was a fat chance.
“Wow, you’re not going to ask me what I’m doing in New York?”
“I figured you’d tell me if you wanted me to know.”
“Lily, no longer curious of my whereabouts?”
Lily raised an eyebrow. Is he fuckin’ kidding? She hadn’t called him in six months. The last time he was in town, they had spent a steamy night in his suite before he left never to call again. She took a deep breath to make sure her emotions didn’t get the best of her.
“Well, I’ll tell you. I was in town meeting with a client, and he said he had a meeting with you. But he got called away for a while. I’ve got a couple of hours before we meet.”
What the fuck? What is the universe doing to me? Lily didn’t say a word but sighed louder and moved to step around Dakota towards the Starbucks in her building.
“Oh, you haven’t had your coffee. No problem. I’ll treat you today.”
Again, Lily didn’t reply; she just looked up at him. His eyes are beautiful, when he gets that twinkle in his eye the other person’s in trouble. Dakota’s bronze hazel eyes watched Lily closely. Every curl on his head was blowing in the wind. Thank goodness I twisted my hair last night. Lily’s hair was wrapped in a graceful updo.
“Come on, for old times sake.”
Lily remained silent, yet she didn’t shrink away from his hand at the small of her waist, allowing him to lead her to the shop. Her body going wild at his closeness and touch. What am I doing? Aren’t I old enough to be above this passive-aggressive bullshit?
“Which favorite do you need today? Is it for a morning rush or to last the day?
He remembers my coffee choices. Shouldn’t that make me warm and fuzzy inside? Lily locked her teeth for a moment stifling a smile. “I have a long day today, but I need a rush.”
“Got it.”
Dakota led her to a table and pulled out her chair before going to order her drink. She was able to sit and be silent without his energy or scent hammering at her. Lily took a deep breath.
Why do I still love and want him? And to what end? She knew she couldn’t pretend she didn’t want him back. She was also pretty sure that he didn’t feel the same. He was being nice. The two of them had ended things amicably.
“So how have you been, Lily? I’ve missed our morning calls.”
“I haven’t,” that came out colder than she had intended. Still, she couldn’t tell him the truth. “I can get some sleep now instead of waking up to hear your voice.”
“It couldn’t have been that bad.”
“Comme ce comme sa.”
“Wow, didn’t know I was disturbing you. Just wanted to hear your voice.”
Lily was surprised. She could see the hurt in his eyes and immediately felt bad. She backtracked. “It wasn’t that bad. I was just tired a lot, so I started this horrible coffee habit.”
He smiled as he rested his head on his hand. “I mean it, Lily, you look beautiful. I’ve missed you.”
Lily narrowed her eyes and looked him directly in the eye. For fucks sake. He had to be joking? He never called. He didn’t even return my texts. Strange women were answering his phone. “Don’t blow smoke up my ass Dakota.”
He flinched.
“You were caught with numerous women; you never returned my calls or texts. Don’t come back for ten minutes and act as though you’ve missed me.” Lily gathered her bag and jacket before she got up. “I don’t have time to entertain you because you’ve got five minutes to remember me. I have work today, and you are distracting me.” Lily paused to straighten her skirt and jacket. “Thank you for the coffee. I need to get upstairs.”
Lily didn’t give him time to reply. She walked towards the door and through it. She knew he was watching her. But she refused to look back. What the fuck did he think he was doing. ‘You’re beautiful Lily, I’ve missed you.’ If he just needed a piece of ass, it would have been better if he asked for it. I’d have given in. I need to feel the touch of a man. But I will not allow him to play with my heart.
Lily wiped a tear from her cheek before she walked into the lobby. She took a deep breath as she got on to the elevator. What else could happen today?
I’m experimenting with how inner thoughts and the a narrator can create more details in a story. Let me know what you think. Do you want to know what happens between Lily and Dakota?
Until next Sunday.
